There Is a Magic Number for Marriage, According to Science

Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces in Chicago has experienced some of the most magical moments with our clients; especially when they're shopping for an engagement ring.

We've had clients as young as 18 & as old as 80 shopping for engagement rings. Whether it's their first or tenth marriage, they have a magical glow to them, a sense of contentment, fulfillment and happiness. We've always wondered if there is an ideal age for marriage, so we did some research and found there actually is a magic number -- or so says science.

An article in The New York Times last December boldly declared that the oft-cited statistic that 50% of marriages end in divorce is a myth, and in fact, the divorce surge is a thing of the past

"The delay in marriage is part of the story, allowing people more time to understand what they want in a partner and to find one."

According to The Institute of Family Studies, and conventional wisdom, getting married under the age of 20 carries a risk of divorce within the first five years: a whopping 32 percent. And it decreases after then. Between age 20 and 24, the risk is 20%; between 25 and 29, it's 15%; and between 30 and 34, it's 14%. But then, the trend reverses: From age 35 and up, the divorce risk climbs to 19%.

"My data analysis shows that prior to age 32 or so, each additional year of age at marriage reduces the odds of divorce by 11 percent. However, after that the odds of divorce increase by 5 percent per year," writes Nicholas H. Wolfinger, a professor of family and consumer studies and adjunct professor of sociology at the University of Utah."

Thirty-two, it appears is the magic number.

We're not ones to disagree with science but we are supporters of love and marriage at any age. Maybe it's not the age that matters, maybe it's the time it takes to find your perfect match. When you've found your perfect person, we're here for your engagement ring needs.

Blake Shelton & Miranda Lambert Divorcing -- Last Look at Her Engagement Ring

One of country music's cutest couples has called it quits.

Blake Shelton & Miranda Lambert are divorcing after 4 years of marriage. The singers announced their divorce via a statement to the Associated Press Monday.

"This is not the future we envisioned," the former couple announced in a joint statement. "And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter."

Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces in Chicago wants to give you one last look at the engagement ring Blake gave Miranda in 2010 when he proposed: he picked a platinum and diamond engagement ring with a round center stone and two baguettes.

Blake helped design a classic and elegant ring for his bride. Before making the ring, they sketched Miranda’s tattoo and then spent about 60 hours to make and carve out part of the ring. Miranda wanted something beautiful in the engagement ring accordance with the theme of her marriage and also a ring that can create a brilliant sparkle.

So they made a ring named “Eternity”, made of platinum and a round gorgeous diamond set with ornate platinum prongs in the middle. Unfortunately even with a name like "Eternity" some marriages aren't meant to last.

When it came to choosing an engagement ring for his now wife, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher went with a classic piece.

According to Chicago's favorite jeweler, the bling that now sits on Mila's left hand "looks to be a diamond solitaire style with a center diamond, I estimate to be around 5 carats, set in platinum with a band featuring semi pave inlay. The diamond looks to be emerald cut and probably high quality as this cut tends to expose inclusions more than other cuts."

Worth? The engagement ring could run "upwards of 260,000."

That price places the ring just slightly higher than the one Kutcher gifted to ex-wife Demi Moore, which was worth a reported $250,000. It did not go unnoticed that the Ghost star's sparkler was also a 5 carat emerald cut diamond—but to be fair it is a popular style.
