Hublot & Geneva Seal Celebrate Hebru Brantley -- Chicago Picasso

Iconic watch giant, Hublot, celebrated the art world's next superstar, Chicagoan Hebru Brantley last night at an exclusive event. In partnership with fine watch retailer Geneva Seal Lake Forest Sportscars, guests shared a rare inside look at the studio and creative process of Hebru, also known as -- Chicago Picasso.

Inspired by his 1980’s Chicago upbringing, Hebru’s work touches on tough subjects in a way that is easily digestible to the viewer – by telling his stories through youthful characters and their adventures.

As Hebru explained to fellow Chicago artist and Grammy-winning rapper Wasalu Jaco -- better known as Lupe Fiasco -- during his Michigan Avenue interview:

When I create, a lot of times I don’t see kids. I really don’t.

I just see them as people.

There’s a sense of innocence there, but there’s also a sense of all the other things we go through.

What a kid might go through on a playground in certain ways might parallel what a guy goes through in a boardroom in a job day to day.

hublot-watches-hebru-brantley-chicago

Focusing on one character, Flyboy, who's pretty much his marquee, almost his brand, almost his Nike swoosh, or as Hebru said:

"My Mickey Mouse."

Flyboy was created because it's rare to see a popular character within any medium that is African-American, Latino, even Asian. Hebru wanted to create that, in a space of high art and be able to have some historical context to that character.

He took from the Tuskegee Airmen, who were fighter pilots in World War II. They flew successful missions and they never lost a person.

But at that time black folks were treated far less than equal. For him, it was important to have that historical context to a character, not to just have one for the sake of needing one or wanting one.

The event also served as an opportunity for guests to see the Ferrari California T in iconic red – an exemplar of Italian engineering.

Hublot, the exclusive 360° partner of Ferrari serves as both the " Official Watch" and "Official Timekeeper” of Scuderia Ferrari and the Ferrari brand globally.

Hublot, a brand at the forefront of art and design, has partnered with a range of world-renowned artists, architects, and innovators including Oscar Niemeyer, Mr. Brainwash, Maestro Carlos Cruz-Diez, Maxime Büchi, Romero Britto, and Lang Lang and continues to celebrate its Art of Fusion by merging the multi-dimensional worlds of watchmaking and art.

It was an honor for Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces to partner with Hublot, Lake Forest Sportscars and for a truly unforgettable night.

Unveiling the 2016 Ferrari 488 Spider with Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces in Chicago

Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces, Hublot and Lake Forest Sportscars unveiled the 2016 Ferrari 488 Spider during an exclusive event at Prairie Production in Chicago yesterday evening.

Meet the Ferrari 488 Spider, the turbocharged drop-top that has all the awesome performance figures of the GTB plus the option of driving with nothing but blue skies above!

Hublot has become the watchmaking partner of Ferrari, creating the MP-05 LaFerrari. In a demonstration that lives up to the car, the Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari watch has the longest power reserve of any mechanical watch on the planet.

The in-house made and designed Hublot movement has 50 days of power reserve. That is about 1,200 hours. A standard mechanical movement has about 42 hours of power reserve.

If you are into luxury then the most important thing to know about the Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari watch is that it is the most expensive and high-end timepiece (so far) to come as a result of the Hublot + Ferrari relationship.

The Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari watch remains one of the coolest ultra-luxury-watches on the planet and represents the apex of what Hublot is able to achieve.

The case is 45.8mm tall by 39.5mm wide and 15.3mm thick. It does seem to be bigger than it actually is, but what else would you expect from a timepiece intended to be larger than life?

URWERK Releases the EMC Pistol at Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces

The URWERK EMC Pistol, its birth attended by top craftsmen.

Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces in Chicago welcomes The EMC watch, constructed by the URWERK company, is a milestone in luxury watchmaking as the first and only mechanical watch in which the rate can be checked electronically at any time simply by pressing a button.

Welcome to the little workshops of the Place Simon-Goulart in Geneva’s old watchmaking district of Saint Gervais. Hidden in an attic you find the Portalès leather company, presided over by its owner, Joséphine Morf, and Sylviane, her nimble-fingered worker

“URWERK’s order at first took us by surprise,” says Sylviane. “They wanted a part of the skin that we very seldom use because it is in relief. The straps we made are truly three dimensional with a series of small ridges.”

The strap for the EMC Pistol is certainly unconventional. Its manufacture is entirely in the hands of Sylviane who deftly manipulates edge bevellers, mechanical blades and cutters. “We have made five unique straps, which in my view are among the finest created by our company.”

For this last version of the EMC — the Pistol — URWERK has brought together the leading craftsmen and the most skilled hands to do justice to these five unique watches. Florian Güllert was responsible for the engraving, Joséphine and Sylviane took care of the leather work for the strap while URWERK’s artistic director, Martin Frei, and master-watchmaker, Felix Baumgartner, have unstintingly given of their best to create this watch. The EMC Pistol is the fruit of this exceptional alliance.

The first thing you notice when you meet Florian Güllert are his hands — large, thin and well manicured hands. Florian Güllert specialises in engraving firearms. He is a painstaking worker who loves his craft, proving that enthusiasm can coexist with meticulous care.

Hublot Big Bang Unico Italia Independent at Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces

Hublot has launched the new Big Bang UNICO Italia Independent, designed in collaboration with the Italian brand, of whom Lapo Elkann is President and Co-Founder. Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces in Chicago is proud to house this exclusive creation. This collaboration has created a case featuring a brand new material, Texalium®, whose design is exclusive to the Swiss watchmaking brand.

This collaboration has created a case featuring a brand new material, Texalium®, whose design is exclusive to the Swiss watchmaking brand.

By now well accustomed to carbon fibre cases, Hublot wanted to go even further in its search for this material, to achieve even more colour variations. Texalium® is unique in that it is aluminium-coated carbon fibre; the great advantage of this is that it can be designed in different colours and has a remarkable brilliance, with all the lightness of carbon fibre.

hublot-big-bang-unico-italia-independent

This new Big Bang Unico Italia Independent is available in two colourways – grey or blue – and is guaranteed to electrify the wrist of anyone wearing it. A 500-piece limited edition of each of these two versions will be produced.

Roger Dubuis Velvet Collection at Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces

Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces, a Chicago watch and engagement ring boutique houses the sexiest watch brand in the world; Roger Dubuis. The Roger Dubuis Velvet Collection timepieces are Haute Horlogerie divas that draw all eyes with their exceptional charisma.

roger-dubuis-velvet-watch

With their graphic split-level dials creating a depth effect, numerals and appliques converging towards the centre, decorated lugs, trompe l’oeil style case designs midway between a circle and a tonneau or barrel shape, they offer an entertaining new take on the brand identity codes, imbued with a blend of virtuosity and poetry.

It captures gazes and catches the light. This exquisitely feminine and ultra-glamorous model vamps the watch-making scene with a blend of elegance and audacity.

Its bezel and lugs sparkle with the radiance of 100 diamonds totaling approximately 1.77 carats. This model was created using the RD821 movement, stamped with the prestigious Hallmark of Geneva.

With a New Bond Film Must Come a New Bond Watch

With a new Bond film must come a new Bond watch. Omega has now released a James Bond limited edition version of the Seamaster 300m Co-Axial and Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces in Chicago is proud to house the rare timepiece.

Spectre, 2015: Seamaster 300 Limited Edition.

The first thing to note is that there are no “007” additions to the watch’s dial at all. This is not a Bond watch in the vein of all other Bond watches; this is a watch that James Bond will be wearing, rather than a commemorative piece – as emphasized by the recently released pictures of Daniel Craig touring the Omega factory wearing this watch.

The only dial changes to the watch are that the 12 o’clock hour index has been replaced with a larger “Omega Seamaster” logo, and the second hand has been given a “lollipop” circle at its tip rather than the standard arrow. And the bezel is now a bi-directional rotating bezel with numerals from 0-11, giving the watch a second timezone function of sorts. They are the kind of discreet changes that you’d have to be an actual spy to notice.

Hublot Big Bang Pop Art Collection

"A timepiece that brings the avant-garde spirit of the Pop Art movement to life"

THE ART OF FUSION GETS A SPLASH OF COLOR WITH THE BIG BANG POP ART

Bright, bold and strikingly colorful. Inspired by the Pop Art movement of the 1950 and to a greater extent the 60s, the Big Bang Pop Art collection is a horological canvas for artistic expression. A veritable fusion between the worlds of watchmaking and modern art, it is the very notion of challenging the conventional that Hublot related to in Pop Art.

Much like how Andy Warhol took American popular culture and reinterpreted them into vividly colored paintings, the Pop Art reinterprets Hublot’s signature Big Bang into the most prismatic ladies’ line to date; watches that are as much mechanical marvels as they are pieces of wearable art.

The Big Bang Pop Art come in either steel or, something of a rarity for Hublot, yellow gold cases that capture the retro spirit of the Pop Art movement. Accentuating the playful colors of the dial, the bezels are skillfully set with baguette cut precious and semi-precious stones, including blue topaz, purple amethyst, pink sapphire and green tsavorite.

CAPTURING THE STROKE OF A PAINTBRUSH

Against a rich blue background, the chronograph registers and indexes are truly one-of-a-kind, painted in two contrasting colors. Around the register and markers one is given the impression of paintbrush strokes with paint matching the chronograph registers. The date wheel blends in perfectly with its matching blue tone.

The strap is just as brightly colorful as the rest of the watch, done in alligator leather with a contrasting colored rubber backing for added comfort, flexibility and durability.

Hublot continues to explore the realm of Pop Art and modern art in general, as can be witnessed from the collaboration with Brazilian artist Romero Britto’s Pop Art-inspired football design for the for FIFA 2014 World Cup, as well as promoting young emerging modern artists such as Gao Ludi in China and Hebru Brantley in the USA.

Bovet Watches | Récital 11 "Miss Alexandra"

bovet-watches-chicago

Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces, a Chicago watch and engagement ring boutique is the only Authorized Dealer for Bovet watches in Illinois. The Bovet Récital 11 “Miss Alexandra” features the same precision phase of the moon and characteristic hands of the Récital 9 Tourbillon. The hour and minute hands are offset at 6 o’clock.

Their atypical silhouettes, forming a heart every hour, stand out clearly against the guilloché surface of the finely-worked mother-of-pearl dial crafted by artisans of the Dimier 1738 Dial Manufacture.

bovet-watches-chicago
bovet-watches-chicago

With its assurance of proven reliability and chronometric precision, the self-winding movement of this new timepiece guarantees a power-reserve of 72 hours, or three days. A comfortable margin, since it allows the timepiece to be taken off for an entire weekend and put back on without the need for any adjustments.

bovet-watches-chicago

The precision moon phase module was entirely developed and manufactured by artisans of DIMIER 1738. More complex than a traditional indicator, this precision complication requires only a single one-day correction every 122 years. Its display method was also revised. Rather than showing two moons on a moving disc, here the moon is rigidly attached to the dial. The system features a disc engraved according to an exact cartography of the lunar surface.

Hollow parts have been filled with luminous material. As a result, the moon appears exactly as it can be observed in the sky and therefore seems to directly reflect the sun’s light. The sky through which the earth’s satellite moves has been chased and black treated.

bovet-watches-chicago

The Manufacture’s engravers then reworked this sky so that bright points appeared, reminiscent of stars. Two circular pallets moving above this assembly are decorated with the same motif as the sky. Reading the phase of the moon is therefore both intuitive and realistic.

Telling Time with 8 Legs at Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces

Conceived by MB&F and manufactured by L’Epée 1839 – Switzerland’s only specialised high-end clock manufacture – Arachnophobia is the result of MB&F founder Maximilian Büsser’s overactive imagination blending with his appreciation of art.

Arachnophobia was inspired by a giant spider sculpture called Maman (mother in French), created by Louise Bourgeois (1911 – 2010) in bronze, stainless steel and marble. Measuring 9.27 x 8.91 x 10.24 metres, the monumental sculpture has been installed in a variety of locations around the world.

MB&F developed the highly unusual concept with L’Epée, selecting a high-end L’Epée clock movement and re-imagining it as the mechanical head and torso of a spider. The body is outfitted with a black dome with white numerals depicting the hours and minutes. The araneae’s self-sufficiency is to be admired, for the finely-finished, highly-visible movement boasts a power reserve of eight days.

At either end of Arachnophobia’s time-displaying abdomen, important mechanical processes take place: the head houses the regulator with its oscillating balance wheel, while the other end contains the mainspring barrel, which powers the movement. Attached to the abdomen are eight visually enticing legs which can be rotated so that Arachnophobia can stand tall on a desk or on a wall.

Arachnophobia is available in black or 18k yellow gold-plated editions.

For over 175 years, L’Epée has been at the forefront of watch and clock making. Today, it is the only specialised manufacture in Switzerland dedicated to making high-end clocks. L’Epée was founded in 1839, initially to make music box and watch components, by Auguste L’Epée who set up the business near Besançon, France. The L’Epée hallmark was that all parts were made entirely by hand.

watch-3

During the 20th century, L’Epée owed much of its reputation to its superlative carriage clocks and, for many, L’Epée was the clock of the influential and powerful; it was also the gift of choice by French government officials to elite guests. In 1976 when the Concorde supersonic aircraft entered commercial service, L’Epée wall clocks were chosen to furnish the cabins, providing passengers with visual feedback of the time. In 1994, L’Epée showed its thirst for a challenge when it built the world’s biggest clock with compensated pendulum, the Giant Regulator. At 2.2m high, it weighs 1.2 tons – the mechanical movement alone weighs 120kg – and required 2,800 man-hours of work.

A Women's Piece Designed by Breitling Watches at Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces

Breitling

Breitling treats feminine wrists to a new model from its Galactic line featuring a slimmer case, tungsten carbide bezel and a chronometer-certified SuperQuartz™ movement. A true champion marrying style with performance.

The ultra-sporty, elegant and sophisticated Galactic holds a place of its own within the Breitling universe. It is intended for those who don’t necessarily require chronograph functions but are still keen on having a watch capable of sharing every moment of a dynamic lifestyle, and particularly for women of action.

The slimmer case features an extremely ergonomic profile. It is topped by a brand-new smooth bezel in tungsten carbide, an ultra-resistant high-tech composite material whose original shade creates a subtle contrast with polished steel. Tungsten carbide is made from a tungsten powder molded at high temperature and under extreme pressure. This results in incomparable hardness almost five times greater than that of steel, as well as a scratch-proof surface.

The dials come in black-lacquered or mother-of-pearl, with or without diamond hour-markers. The steel bracelet comprising five rows of links boasts a sturdy and comfortable construction. This model is also available with a diamond-set steel bezel. In addition, the Galactic 36 SleekT retains the sporting qualities that have forged the collection’s success, including water resistance to 100 m (330 ft), a shock-resistant case, a sapphire crystal glareproofed on both sides and an extremely legible dial with luminescent hands and large hour-markers.

The officially chronometer-certified SuperQuartzTM movement displays a level of precision ten times higher than standard quartz. The ultimate sports model for women.

“This project came into being because of our revolutionary design and desire to strive for something different,” said Scott Devon, founder and creative director of Devon Works.

Different and powerful is exactly what Devon achieved in the eight-month time frame the brand was allotted to bring the Star Wars | Devon watch to fruition.

“We knew immediately that we had to incorporate Darth Vader into the design. He is not just one of the most iconic Star Wars characters, but he is also represents an impressive display of man interfacing with machine” says Devon, adding that he worked with his in-house designer, Marko Petrovic to develop the watch. “Marko had already seen the Star Wars movies a hundred times before I even brought the concept of the watch to him. He had the design done within in a week.”

“Being a huge fan of Star Wars, it was not so hard for me to put my mind into it and come up with a watch that captures the movies’ essence,” says Petrovic. “It was a real treat to watch all the episodes again, but his time from a different perspective. Blending of the emblems of Star Wars with Devon to create an iconic watch just flowed naturally.”

HYT H2 Aviator Watch | Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces

Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces, a Chicago watch and engagement ring boutique is the only Authorized Dealer for HYT watches in Illinois. With an already imposing name, the H2 Aviator ref. 248-DL-01-GF-KG is the first time HYT creates a timepiece destined for aviation lovers with each step of its concept designed to satisfy aeronautical codes. The H2 Aviator isn't simply an evolution, it is a true transformation of HYT's iconic H2 launched in 2013. HYT CEO Vincent Perriard said:

"The H2 Aviator is a well thought out design conceived to go the distance over years, to evolve, follow and even anticipate horological trends and to think that our creations are all of this quality, gives me enormous satisfaction. The H2 transcends different orbs and is not propelled 10,000 feet upward as if it has always been mean for this."

This is not a "pilot's watch" as one might think of it in the traditional sense. Rather, the H2 Aviator is more along the lines of a design change which in total give it more of an "aviation" style: there is no new mechanical function (aviation or otherwise) vs the other H2 models. One feature that is entirely new for HYT is the strap - this one if made of Kevlar (a synthetic fiber of high tensile strength used especially as a reinforcing agent in the manufacture of tires and other rubber products and protective gear such as helmets and vests).

The HYT H2 Aviator displays time using HYT's innovative liquid system: two bellows positioned in a V-shape at 6 o'clock work mechanically to move the yellow fluid in the small capillary around the edge of the dial. The position of the liquid indicates the current hour (the gray hour indexes of this model are luminous). Minutes are displayed with the center-set hand, with an unusual "jump" at 30 minutes so as "to avoid the bellows" according to HYT. This is why one sees two "30" indicators positioned near 6 o'clock.

HYT introduced a thermal indicator to erase the effects of heat and cold on rate on the position of the fluid. This thermal indicator shows if the watch is in its optimal temperature segment to be handled.

Hublot Big Bang Broderie Watch | Chicago

Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces in Chicago is proud to house The Hublot Big Bang Broderie watch is irresistible fine embroidery – the most feminine of materials – worn directly against the skin it is synonymous with intimacy… Romantic and sexy, embroidery is the stuff of fantasies.

As delicate as it is frivolous, it embodies a savoir-faire which masters the subtle art of discreet revelation. Hublot continues to revisit Arts and Crafts in its own distinctive way, here paying homage to the memory of our grandmothers’ needlework with this fine St. Gallen embroidery – an ancestral art which is 100% Swiss Made – created by Bischoff, the leading Maison Suisse.

hublot-big-bang-broderie

The creative teams from both companies came  together to develop an exclusive pattern in order to create a fusion with the Big Bang’s iconic design. It shows a rebellious spirit, with its skull pattern on a dial studded with 11 diamonds, and soft arabesques on the bezel and strap – a technical feat which took several months of Research & Development.

After the embroidered elements produced in St. Gallen were delivered to Hublot in the canton of Vaud, part of the solution was found and developed in the Jura: in a process akin to the manufacture of high-tech carbon fibre components, the elements embroidered on tulle are encased and moulded – like a stack of sheets – in carbon fibre to amplify the texture. The process is new and exclusive.

The components are then assembled in the Hublot manufacture in Nyon, the ladies’ timepiece being completed for connoisseurs with an HUB1110 automatic mechanical movement featuring 63 components and 21 jewels. 42-hour power reserve. The Big Bang Broderie, the ultrafeminine watch now featuring the most delicate details, is initially available in 3 versions: gold, silver or All Black, studded.

Breitling Jet Team Getting Ready to Wow Chicago Air & Water Show Crowds

Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces, a Chicago engagement ring and watch house is proud to welcome the Breitling Jet Team for their first flight at our annual Chicago Air & Water Show.

New to the air show this year,  the Breitling Jet Team came to us from France. They put their Czech-made Aero L-39c Albatros jets in shipping containers to bring them to the U.S. for their first American tour.

According to CBS Chicago, team leader Jacques Bothelin said,

“We try to choreograph the scenes in a specific European manner. It’s a little different from what you have seen with the American teams. We also use a lot of music, and try to give positive emotion to the spectators. We just want to give them a good time by the elegance (and) grace of the maneuvers,” he said.

Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces in Chicago is an Authorized Dealer for Breitling Watches in Chicago.

The HYT H4 Gotham Watch Exclusively at Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces in Chicago

What is the HYT H4 Gotham watch?

Well, essentially it is the HYT H1 with a skeletonized movement in the HYT Skull case. The Skull enlarged the already big 48.8mm wide H1 case to 51mm with additional case changes, such as removal of the crown guard.

Nevertheless, here, in this very lightweight carbon material, it doesn't feel heavy or too big on the wrist (even though it is 17.9mm thick). If you are going to wear a large watch, you might as well wear something like this that combines a radical design with a cool movement that you really want to see in action.

If you are new around here and haven't heard of HYT yet, the point of the brand is to use liquid to help indicate the time.

This HYT H4 Gotham uses red-colored liquid in the specially developed tube and bellows system to indicate the hours. A more traditional hand on the dial indicates the minutes, while it is flanked on either side with a subsidiary seconds dial to the left and a power reserve indicator to the right. Not that the H1 watch's movement wasn't at all skeletonized, but the HYT H4's movement steps it up a notch with a sapphire crystal plate serving as much of the dial over some movement bridges. Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces is the ONLY Authorized Dealer for HYT watches in Chicago.

Today the Freak is one of the already classic and iconic timepieces, so it’s no wonder that Ulysse Nardin wants to continue the legacy with a new model in the range. This year they’re unveiling the FreakLab, with a tourbillon and a date indicator. The big challenge here was to stay true to the tradition and keep the watch ‘hands-free’, meaning that the wearer would adjust the date as he adjusts time – using the bezel. The solution was surely hard to work out, yet now looks so simple and effortless – when turning the bezel you would just need change the direction of the rotation and then pull it back! Now apart from its functionality the look of this model is quite exceptional too – the white gold case matches the grey/black dial and croc strap, and the absence of a crown makes the 45mm case diameter look more elegant than you’d expect. The new FreakLab will have a power reserve of 8 days and will have a price tag south of 100k CHF.

Apart from the Freak there’s another collection we love, and that’s Ulysse Nardin’s exceptional minute repeater/tourbillons. This one here displays the Carthaginian military commander Hannibal Barca, a man considered to be one of the most iconic military leaders of all time. He’s had many battles but the quest he’s known for the most is the march across the Pyrenees and Alps with an army of horsemen and elephants that lead to his victory in Italy. Ulysse Nardin ‘Hannibal’ minute repeater shows the legend himself on the horse and a battle elephant right beside him. The whole set up gets animated as soon as the minute repeater function is activated. The case is made of Platinum and also features a beautiful one-minute tourbillon at 6 o’clock.

Now, another novelty apart from the FreakLab is the Anchor Tourbillon, a complete opposite of what we would usually expect from Ulysse Nardin’s high end collection. This one speaks to a whole new audience and shows the ‘softer’ and more classy side of the brand. The beautiful Grand Feu enamel white dial and those traditional-looking hands and numerals bring up the elegance of the timepiece, while the constant Ulysse Anchor escapement, the tourbillon and the 8 day power reserve indicator at 6 o’clock show its complexity. This Anchor Tourbillon will be available in white or rose gold, each version limited to 18 numbered pieces, and what’s even more interesting is the price of just over CHF 80’000 for such a sophisticated and complicated watch.

Breitling Emergency II: The First Wristwatch Designed to Save Your Life

The world’s first wristwatch with a dual frequency locator beacon.

Geneva Seal Fine Jewelry & Timepieces in Chicago is proud to introduce the Breitling Emergency II — successor to the wildly popular Breitling Emergency, and the first-ever watch with a dual-frequency locator beacon.

The watch’s planned U.S. retail release has been stalled for nearly two years awaiting approval from the FCC - until now.

Pilots, sailors, and other adventurers who have patiently waited for the chance to purchase the Emergency II received good news on June 23rd when Breitling announced that the government red tape had finally been cut: the company received its necessary FCC waiver, and the Breitling Emergency II would finally be available at retail on July 1. Here’s what you need to know about this world’s-first timepiece:
