In 2017, after 16 years of maturation, David Candaux presents his first creation at Baselworld, DC1 1740 First 8. This name rich in meaning evokes the year when the presence of a watchmaker was first attested in the Vallée de Joux. The watch embodies David’s intimate vision of today’s watchmaking, a combination of a very high degree of craftsmanship and contemporary possibilities. Conception, design, materials, mechanisms, he envisions this and subsequent timepieces as a state of the art of watchmaking in the present, interpreted by his sensibility. In the manner of the ancients, he performs the decoration, assembly and adjustment by hand.
In Le Solliat, the surrounding meadows, forests and lake inspire calm and silence. As a tribute to this majestic nature, David uses a special guilloche decoration, the «Pointe du Risoux». Its geometry powerful like the wind between the trees, recalls the pine tips of the eponymous forest near the village.
David dedicates the «Côtes du Solliat» to the region, a unique finish that is impossible to achieve except by hand.
